Originally built as a movie theatre, The Stanley opened its doors in 1928 with 2,963 seats, a grand entry staircase that resembles the main staircase on the Titanic, a gold leaf interior and terra cotta and tiled mosaic exterior. Designed by renowned architect Thomas Lamb, whose remaining creations include The Stanley, Proctors, and The Landmark Theatre in Syracuse. Simon Allen and Eddie had played together in 1997 as The Mastersounds, though with a different bassist and no organ. Through friends and the intimate nature of the Leeds music scene, Pete Shand and Bob Birch were added on bass and Hammond respectively, and The New Mastersounds were born. Though it was raw, and more of a boogaloo sound at first, it was powerful from the start. GA and VIP tickets are now available via the Brooklyn Comes Alive website.Their first rehearsal was hot enough for Blow it Hard Records to release on two limited-edition 7” singles in 2000. Turkuaz will head home to Brooklyn on Saturday, March 21st for a unique performance at Brooklyn Comes Alive featuring special guests/Snarky Puppy alums Cory Henry (The Funk Apostles), Robert Sput Searight (Ghost-Note), and Nate Werth (Ghost-Note). Watch the five-song tribute performance in full below.īurkuhaz – Turkuaz Tribute Performance – 12/1/19Īs for the actual Turkuaz, the band will pick up its ongoing tour efforts in support of 2019’s Kuadrachrome with an upcoming appearance at Brooklyn Comes Alive in Brooklyn, NY on March 21st, followed by spring performances in Texas, Arkansas, and Louisiana in April. Burkuhaz doesn’t dress in the rainbow-inspired costumes which the band was formerly known, but they do lay down the funk with the horn and guitar-fueled energy just like the originals.

In a video discovered and shared by Turkuaz on Friday, a tribute band known as Burkuhaz performed five Turkuaz tunes during a show at Nar Culture Hall back on December 1st last year.

Turkuaz is big in Japan–or at least big enough to inspire music students at Kwansei Gakuin University in Hyogo–where members of the private music conservatory recently delivered an impressive tribute performance to the American power-funk band.
